The Problems of Being Convenient

By Dakota Williams / on September 24, 2014

In today’s world, anything we want is at our finger tips. Cell phones, computers, etc. Any mobile device is so common. All the websites which allow us to interact with one another and post comments teach us subconsciously to consume and share what information we have found regardless of what kind of consequences follow. Some individuals tend to use information, often about other people’s personal lives to their advantage. These individuals target people and aim to exploit the trust they have in all technology and websites that a person may use.

Recently, many consumers have moved to file sharing which has enabled them to upload and share vast amount of data such as photos and videos. This has resulted in many businesses adopting file sharing. Businesses are able to upload any information and it instantly becomes available wherever they are.

With no doubt this can be a security risk for many companies due to data being placed in sharing files that any IT department does not have control over.

Currently in the news, file sharing has become more of a problem. Criminals are using this to spread viruses and hosting. Even in the past, Dropbox file sharing services has been targeted. These kinds of attacks have been around for several years but only recently becoming more of an issue. The attacks highlight problems that many companies are facing. Companies are still trying to get a hold of personally owned devices that connect to their networks.

Our generation today along with our society demands convenience and to work as they please. However, this convenience is dangerous to many companies if they cannot control what information is being posted or moved and who is accessing what. Any business needs to understand and know the fine line between making sure the employees are satisfied and productive, and making sure the company is protected for viruses and any loss of data that could hurt the company, name, or reputation.
